The Fantastic Four’s appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was discussed in an unexpected way by the film’s author.
On February 14th, 2025, Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four, will make their big-screen debut. Information on the movie has essentially only been released in dribs and dribs since it was first announced a few years ago.
While Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said that the Fantastic Four will be a cornerstone of the franchise after their debut, details like the setting and casting have all been strictly held secrets.
With that in mind, it follows naturally that the group will go on to play a significant role in the two upcoming Avengers films. Screenwriter Jeff Loveness shared some insight on that specific topic.
Can we expect the Fantastic Four in Avengers 5?
In an interview with io9, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness stated that he “probably won’t even be using” the Fantastic Four in the film.
“Well, it’s undoubtedly a challenging situation. I can’t really concentrate on that outside stuff, just like when I took on this Ant-Man job. Like whoever does the Fantastic Four, Blade, or you know, I’m probably not even utilizing those characters but everything influences itself.
Fans of the MCU may be surprised by this, especially in light of Feige’s recent claim that they will “become a huge pillar of the MCU going forward.”
After all, many fans believed that the scheduling of the Fantastic Four movie before Kang Dynasty was deliberate and that Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny would serve as a springboard into the Avengers’ next adventure after being established in their own movie.
It’s also interesting to note that Kang has connections to the because Reed Richards, nicknamed Mister Fantastic, was a descendant of Nathaniel Richards, who goes by the name of Kang. Hence, based on that relationship alone, it is not a great jump to anticipate that the Four would appear in The Kang Dynasty.
Analyzing the FF’s Possible Exclusion
To put it mildly, the realization that the Fantastic Four most likely won’t play a part in Avengers 5 was shocking.
Yet, it does make sense that Loveness isn’t including them. Even when the team is formally cast, filming on the actual Fantastic Four movie won’t start until early 2024. It makes sense that the gang would skip Avengers 5, but there is a chance that they may be added to subsequent script revisions because significant components are far from locked in.
The Fantastic Four would seem to have a higher chance of showing up in the sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. On February 14, 2025, Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty are scheduled to open in theaters.
